Buckeye Mayor Jackie Meck was recently elected as the Chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council. This is the first time in MAG’s 50 year history that a Buckeye representative has held this position.
“It is an honor to be the Chair of MAG this year,” said Mayor Meck. “We will continue to partner with WESTMARC to address the growth coming to the West Valley and bring quality businesses to the area.”
“We already have a supply of good workers here,” Meck continued, “So the businesses are coming. This will put our region at the top of ever site selector’s list.”
Meck will also focus on the importance of freeway connectivity, freight traffic and pursuing a planning grant to prepare for growth around Luke Air Force Base.
MAG is a Council of governments and a metropolitan planning organization that provides a regional forum for discussion, analysis and resolution of regional issues such as transportation, air quality, economic development and human services.
The Council is also responsible for the 20-year Long Range Transportation Plan and five-year Transportation Improvement Program for the region.
As Chair, Mayor Meck will lead the organization for the next year and preside over MAG Executive Committee Meetings. The Executive Committee is MAG’s financial committee and manages the budget and contract selections.
Meck will lead the organization through June of 2018.
