School Resource Officer Program

Police officers are assigned to local schools as SROs (School Resource Officers), so named because they serve as a resource to faculty, counselors, students and parents. SRO responsibilities include working hand-in-hand with juvenile probations in monitoring at-risk youth, assisting schools in maintaining a safe and crime-free campus, and teaching law enforcement and criminal justice related courses.

Partnership for A Drug-Free America

The Buckeye Police Department supports drug prevention and education programs through the local partnership with Partnership for A Drug-Free America’s Arizona Chapter.

Volunteers in Police Services Programs (VIPS)

The Buckeye Police Department’s Volunteer In Police Service (VIPS) provides members of the community with an opportunity to volunteer and get an inside look at law enforcement. The VIPS program is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the operations and resources of the Buckeye Police Department. The goal of the Buckeye VIPS program is to provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement’s role in our community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each volunteer applicant will go through an initial screening interview with the Volunteer Coordinator. Part of this interview will be to discuss the applicant’s strengths, abilities and passion for a variety of areas of possible service. Together the Volunteer Coordinator and Applicant will try to find the best fit that will satisfy both the volunteer and the Police Department. Some possible opportunities are listed below:

  1. Filing and Data Entry for Records
  2. Receptionist
  3. Citizens Assist – Assisting stranded motorists and on accident scenes
  4. Fingerprinting
  5. Wellness and Vacation Checks

Other opportunities may open up for volunteers as they become familiar with their volunteer position and have developed a working knowledge of the Police Department.

Who Can Volunteer

Volunteers must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have no prior felony arrests
  • Have no misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
  • Possess an Arizona driver’s license or be active military with a valid out-of-state license
  • Be available to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month
  • Be able to complete and pass a thorough background investigation and interview
  • Free of any felony convictions
  • Be willing to submit to polygraph/drug testing at the discretion of the Police Department
