Studying Arizona Series - Museum (Buckeye Valley Museum)

Presented by the Buckeye Community Center and the Buckeye Public Library System, this season's Studying Arizona Series focuses on Southwest Agriculture.

Part One:

On February 5th at 1 p.m. come tour the Buckeye Valley Museum's latest exhibit Arizona Farming and Ranching Hall of Fame Celebrates Arizona's Agricultural History. This unique 16-panel exhibit celebrates contributions to Arizona agricultural history including our very own local contributors.

Part Two:

On February 26th at 1 p.m. join us at the Coyote Branch Library to hear a lecture titled Father Kino: Journey to Discovery from Arizona Humanities Scholar, Dr. Barbara Jaquay, as she shares Father Kino's knowledge of agriculture that contributed to the advancement of agricultural techniques.

Part Three:

The final event will be a field trip to explore the Mission San Xavier del Bac which is located just south of Tucson and was founded by Father Kino in 1692 on the Native American settlement of the O'odham. Afterwards participants will visit the San Xavier Co-Op Farm to learn how early settlers harnessed the power of mother nature and created innovative handcrafted tools and techniques to grow food.

The bus for this field trip leaves on March 26th at 7 a.m. from the Buckeye Community Center (201 E. Centre Ave.) and registration for the field trip begins Feb. 26th following the lecture.
