Rod Buchanan Named new Community Services Director

Rod Buchanan was recently selected to head Buckeye’s Community Services Department. Mr. Buchanan was previously the Parks and Recreation Director for the town of Gilbert. At Buckeye’s Community Services Department, he will oversee the city’s parks, recreation, libraries, aquatic center and special events. 

Prior to Gilbert, Buchanan spent 12 years in Tracy, California as the director of the Parks and Community Services Department. His experience also includes overseeing large Capital Improvement Projects, public-private partnerships, asset management, employee development and implementing operating budgets of up to $50 million.

Buchanan’s background also includes experience as the Interim Public Works Director for the city of Tracy, CA and the Fire Chief for the city of Alameda, CA. 

“My goal for the city of Buckeye is to provide unparalleled service to residents, visitors, Council and city staff,” said Buchanan. “I always strive to continually improve and exceed community expectations.”  

He holds a Masters in Public Administration from California State University, a Bachelors in Fire Administration and is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional from the National Parks and Recreation Association. 

Buchanan’s first day in Buckeye is Oct. 1 and will report to Assistant City Manager James Shano.
