Buckeye Father Re-Arrested and Re-Charged with Death of Infant Son
On Thursday, December 6, 2018, Buckeye police arrested John-Anthony Centano, 25, for charges of first-degree murder and child abuse stemming from the death of his 3-month-old son in June 2017.
Centano was previously arrested in May 2018 for the same charges, but the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office had the case dismissed without prejudice, meaning charges could be filed again.
Over the past few months, additional evidence came to light. A Maricopa County Grand Jury handed up an indictment for the above listed charges and on December 3, 2018, a warrant was issued for Centano’s arrest.
The arrest is related to a June 13, 2017 call Buckeye Police received from Phoenix Children's Hospital regarding a 3-month-old child who was found unresponsive in his Buckeye residence.
The child was being supervised by his father, Centano, then 24, who stated that he transported his son to the Buckeye Abrazo emergency room upon finding him unresponsive on the bed. The child was then flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation and subsequent medical examination indicated that the child died due to complications from head trauma and his death was ruled a homicide.
Centano was booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail, booking #T511007.
