Certified Lifeguard training classes open for registration
Buckeye’s Community Services Department is offering training classes for anyone interested in becoming a certified lifeguard from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 9 through 12 at the Buckeye Aquatic Center, 207 N. 9th Street.
The training and certification training program, StarGuard® from the Starfish Aquatics Institute, uses a holistic approach to learning with practical skills incorporated into the program. Successful completion of the training also include certifications in First Aid and CPR/AED.
Attendance is mandatory for the four-day class, and students must come prepared to swim at each session. A one-year certification is awarded after successfully completing both the skills test and written exam.
The cost to attend this class is $125 for Buckeye residents, $150 for non-residents. Pre-requisites for the class include:
- Must be 15 years old (Note: must be at least 16 years old to work for the city of Buckeye)
- Swim continuously for 300 yards
- Tread water for 2 minutes, with your legs only
- Retrieve and swim 20 yards with a 10 pound weight
- $35 is non-refundable if participant does not pass the pre-water skills test
