BUCKEYE, AZ (May 15, 2024): The Buckeye Police Department will participate in the upcoming “Buckle Up Arizona... It’s the Law!” program encouraging motorists to use seat belts and child safety seats to reduce risk of injury or death in a crash. The program is part of the National Click It or Ticket campaign.
BPD was awarded $10,000 in grants from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to cover personnel costs and employee-related expenses for the two-week campaign starting May 20 through June 2. During this time, officers will conduct intensive traffic enforcement with zero tolerance for seat belt and child safety seat violations.
Seat belts save lives. In Arizona, 1,294 people were killed in crashes in 2022. Nearly 30-percent of them were not properly restrained, according to statistics from Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts. Buckling up and securing children in age and size appropriate car seats and booster seats can reduce risk of injury and death in a crash by at least half, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Buckeye Police Department thanks the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its ongoing support in encouraging safe driving practices that prevent crashes and keep our roads safe.
