Child dies after found in hot car

BUCKEYE, AZ (September 8, 2024): Just before 5 p.m. this evening, Buckeye police received a call of a child found unresponsive in a hot car at a home near 212th Ln and Granada. Officers arrived and immediately began chest compressions on the *3-year-old* girl and attempted to use an AED before medics arrived to transport the child to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Information gathered at this time indicates the family returned from a trip to the park some time after 2 p.m. Hours later, family members began searching for the girl and found her unresponsive in the vehicle. It is believed she was unaccounted for approximately two hours.

The investigation is in the early stages. Buckeye police will provide updates on our social media accounts as they become available.

9/9/2024 UPDATE:
Detectives received an updated date-of-birth indicating the victim is 3 years old. The news release above has been edited to reflect the updated age. The investigation is ongoing.
