BUCKEYE, AZ (September 12, 2024): In the past week, the Buckeye Police Department has received over 300 reports from concerned citizens regarding threats of shootings at schools across the city. Patrol officers, school resource officers and detectives worked to investigate all of the reports received and provide increased presence at the schools. As a result of these investigations, Buckeye police have arrested two students for posting threats and making false reports and booked into Durango Juvenile Detention Center. None of the reported threats were found to be credible.
A 13 year old female student at Bales Elementary School was arrested today after Buckeye police received a tip from the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center regarding threats of a school shooting in Buckeye. Investigating detectives were able to locate the student that made the threats and make an arrest and the student faces criminal charges.
A student at Buckeye Union High School was also arrested today after making a claim on social media they had seen a gun in the bathroom on campus. A School Resource Officer was made aware of the post and the school was placed in a hold. Multiple officers responded to the school to assist in the investigation. Officers were able to locate the student who made the post and determined it was from a text message he had received from another student. Officers located the 17 year old male student who sent the initial text message and determined the report to be false. The student was placed under arrest and faces both criminal charges and school discipline.
Buckeye police take every threat seriously and investigate them with the safety of our community in mind. We want to remind everyone to report posts on social media that involve violence, or threats of violence instead of reposting them.
