BUCKEYE, AZ (November 27, 2024): A portion of Baseline Rd had to be closed Wednesday as Buckeye police investigated a vehicle theft that resulted in a crash. Just after 10 a.m., Buckeye police received a call that an adult male stole a City of Buckeye truck from a job site near Baseline Rd and Central Blvd where crews were working. The suspect then crashed the truck into an unoccupied vehicle parked about a block away. The suspect attempted to run away from the scene, but a city employee helped detain him as officers arrived. The suspect then assaulted two Buckeye police officers as he was taken into custody. Both officers suffered minor injuries. One of them had to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
November 28, 2024 Update: The suspect, 39-year-old Jesse Wells, has been booked into jail on multiple felony charges including vehicle theft and aggravated assault.
