Traffic stop leads to more than a pound of heroin seized

Post Date:03/12/2025 3:08 p.m.

BUCKEYE, AZ (March 12, 2025): A Buckeye police officer pulled over a driver last Thursday and found he had a gun he wasn’t supposed to have, plus a variety of illegal drugs including more than a pound of heroin.

Just before 5 p.m. on March 6, the officer stopped the driver near 4th Ave and Alarcon for failing to stop at a stop sign and other civil traffic violations. The driver denied having any weapons in the truck, but as he got out, a revolver fell to the ground. The officer learned the driver, 50-year-old Gabriel Herrera, is a prohibited possessor. During a search of the vehicle, officers found meth, approximately 100 fentanyl pills, and bags of, what looked like, dark colored rocks that were tested and confirmed as 1.3 lbs. of heroin. Herrera was arrested on drugs and weapons charges.
