BUCKEYE, AZ (April 15, 2025): Buckeye police thank all dispatchers for their commitment and dedication as we begin National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. From April 13 through 19, Buckeye police recognize the exceptional work our Public Safety Communications Center which manages more than 4,000 calls every month with professionalism, compassion and empathy.
“As the first-first responders, dispatchers are invaluable when it comes to keeping our community safe,” says Chief Robert Sanders. “Behind every emergency is a dispatcher who calmed someone in crisis, provided life-saving guidance or gathered information to prepare responding officers. This week and every week, we honor them for excellence and unwavering commitment to the City of Buckeye.”
The Buckeye Police Public Safety Communications Center has earned multiple accolades including reaccreditation last November by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. A recent review of calls coming into the center revealed the dispatch team exceeds the national standard for promptly answering emergency calls. More specifically, Buckeye police dispatchers are answering most 911 calls within 15 seconds when guidance from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) suggests 911 calls should be answered within 20 seconds. For this reason, dispatchers were awarded for Meritorious Unit Performance during a ceremony held by Buckeye police last month.
