BUCKEYE, AZ (April 24, 2025): A teen is in jail and three others facing serious charges after a fight at a school that involved a gun. The assault happened yesterday at Freedom Elementary School during afternoon dismissal among suspects who do not even attend the school.
Just before 4 p.m. on April 23, Buckeye police were called to Freedom Elementary School on Sundance Pkwy to investigate reports of a fight in progress and an armed subject. Officers arrived on scene and quickly detained a 15-year old female, a 17-year-old female, a 17-year-old male and a 19-year-old male who had a handgun. No one was hurt.
During the investigation, it was learned some of the suspects know each other and had arrived at the campus to pick up relatives who attend the school. That’s when a fight broke out and the armed suspect, identified as 19-year-old Iriel Rivera, lifted his shirt to reveal the handgun in his waistband. Rivera was arrested and booked into jail on multiple weapons charges. The three juvenile suspects were also arrested and face various charges including disorderly conduct and disrupting an educational institution.
This was a very chaotic scene that was quickly contained thanks to a community that is vigilant and called 911. As always, if you see something, say something.
