Post Date:05/19/2025 12:01 p.m.

The Buckeye Police Department's Officer of the Year was recently honored at an event attended by first responders from across the valley. Detective Humberto Gomez was recognized at the annual Police & Fire Prayer Breakfast on May 14, 2025, at the Grand Canyon University arena.

Humberto Gomez was recognized earlier this year as 2024 Officer of the Year for his efforts managing complex cases and serving with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Colleagues also highlighted the way he supports victims of crime through empathy and a desire to help people. Gomez is now a newly assigned detective in the Criminal Investigations Division.

Every year, the Police & Fire Prayer Breakfast honors a valley police officer and firefighter. Detective Gomez was nominated as the 2025 Police & Fire Prayer Breakfast Officer of the Year.

Detective Gomez has strong Buckeye roots. He was raised in our city, attending Buckeye Elementary School and later graduating from Buckeye Union High School. He went on to continue his education at Arizona State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology. Before joining Buckeye police in 2020, Gomez served as a detention officer and probation officer in Maricopa County.
