BUCKEYE, AZ (May 27, 2025): A local man faces a hefty fine and possible jail time following an illegal dumping investigation by Buckeye police in collaboration with City of Buckeye Public Works.
On May 14, 2025, Public Works reported an unknown person had left a pile of debris in a desert area near Sunrise and Miller. Employees explained illegal dumping has been an ongoing problem in that area, so they placed a camera there which captured still photos of a silver truck on May 8, 2025. Using resources from the Buckeye Police Real Time Information Center, investigators identified the truck’s registered owner as a Buckeye man in his 60s. Detectives contacted him at his home and issued a citation for criminal littering.
Misdemeanor criminal littering is punishable by a fine up to $750 and up to four months in jail. Meanwhile, it costs less than $15 to dump at Southwest Regional Landfill. We encourage people to do the right thing to keep our desert spaces clean for our community and wildlife.
