The city of Buckeye is seeking artists for two distinct public art projects, including a mural and a kinetic sculpture. These projects aim to enrich the community's cultural landscape and foster local engagement.
The Downtown Public Library is seeking an artist to create a mural design across two canvases for its programming room. The artwork should depict an open book surrounded by literature-inspired characters, utilizing bold colors that reflect the diverse interests of Buckeye residents.
Two finalists will be selected to develop a design concept, each receiving $1,000. The chosen artist will then be awarded an additional $14,000 for the completion and installation of the murals. This project is proudly funded by the Friends of the Buckeye Library.
Buckeye is also seeking a kinetic sculpture for the entrance of Sundance Park. Kinetic art incorporates movement, echoing natural forces or forms. The proposed sculpture should draw inspiration from plant or animal themes, with its movement driven by wind, motors or even solar/water power.
Following a portfolio review, two artists will be chosen to create designs, each earning $1,000. The artist selected to construct and install the sculpture will receive a $50,000 award. This piece will become a focal point of the park’s entrance, enhancing Sundance Park's atmosphere.
Both projects will entail community engagement to discover what residents want from these pieces. For more information or to ask any questions about the Call to Artists for these two projects, please contact Ilana Lydia Holden at iholden@buckeyeaz.gov.
