Post Date:07/29/2025 11:52 a.m.

BUCKEYE, AZ (July 29, 2025): A man in is jail after pointing a gun at an officer, sparking an hours long standoff last night near Miller and Southern Rd.

Just before 8 p.m. Monday night, Buckeye police responded to a home on Dove Circle to conduct a welfare check after someone reported that a neighbor was shouting for help. An officer came to the door and called out to anyone who needed assistance. As the officer moved closer to look through a heavy, screened security door, they saw a man inside the home pointing a handgun in the officer’s direction. The man yelled at officers to get off the property. That’s when officers backed away from the home and called in SWAT.

Over the next few hours, Buckeye police repeatedly made attempts to establish communication with the suspect. Just before 1 a.m., the suspect came out of the home but ignored commands and started to walk away. He was hit with less-lethal rounds and then detained. The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Arthur Johnson, was treated for minor injuries before being booked into jail on multiple felony charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
