Post Date:01/09/2026 9:20 a.m.

BUCKEYE, AZ (January 9, 2026): A teen is in jail after making an Instagram post threatening a school shooting at Youngker High School yesterday. There is no ongoing threat to the community.

Around 3 p.m. on January 8, 2026, a student notified the School Resource Officer (SRO) on campus that they had seen a threat posted on Instagram but did not know who the social media account belonged to. The Buckeye Police Criminal Investigations Division began looking into the account and determined it belonged to a Youngker High School student identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Chavez. At approximately 9 p.m., detectives arrested Chavez at his Buckeye home. He was booked on charges of threats and interference with or disruption of an educational institution.

Buckeye police take every reported threat involving our schools very seriously. Through the combined efforts of our school resource officers and detective team, this incident was investigated thoroughly to ensure the safety of students, staff and our community. We commend the actions of the student who promptly reported the online threat. As always, if you see something, say something.
