Development Services staff is working with Arizona State University’s Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning Capstone Studio on conducting a study for the City of Buckeye with the primary objective of producing a Specific Area Plan for Downtown Buckeye. This effort is aimed at creating an area plan as a future implementation task of 2018 General Plan Update and is anticipated to go through the legislative adopted process after ratification of the general plan which is projected for August 2018.
Public meetings were held in February and March and included stakeholder groups, the Buckeye Valley Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Coalition, Planning and Zoning Commission and Council to discuss the vision of the Downtown Specific Area Plan.
The eight elements of the plan that are being explored are:
- Urban Form
- Public Infrastructure
- Public Art
- Historic Presence
After the General Plan is adopted and ratified. Buckeye intends to adopt this Specific Area Plan in 2019.
