Home MenuTransit Master Plan
Buckeye's Transit Master Plan presents a forward-looking plan to strengthen local mobility and ensure that transit services are accessible to all residents. A key feature of this plan is the introduction of a pilot program specifically designed to assist individuals and households with the greatest need for reliable transportation. This program will present opportunities for residents who face barriers to mobility such as seniors, individuals with disabilities, low-income households and those without access to a personal vehicle. The Pilot Program is expected to launch in the spring of 2026. Please check this page early next year for detailed information and updates.
In addition to meeting the immediate needs of the community, the Transit Master Plan includes a future outlook on expanding transit options through micro transit and an on-demand service that offers flexible, on-command transportation to better connect neighborhoods with commercial and employment corridors. Together, these strategies will help create a more accessible transit network that supports the city’s long-term vision.
Background on Buckeye's Transit Study
Buckeye conducted a transit study to evaluate current transit services for city residents, workers and visitors, assessing destinations and identifying suitable transit options. Transit, if properly designed, can be a cost-effective alternative to driving. The Buckeye Transit Study was needed to prepare for the city's continued growth, determining efficient transportation solutions for current and future needs. Originating from the Buckeye 2018 Transportation Master Plan, this study follows a long-range roadmap for transit services, considering community characteristics and existing infrastructure.
What Did the Transit Study Seek to Accomplish?
The study looked at various types of transit services and develop recommendations based on the city’s land use and development trends, current and future resident, employment and business demographics and community and stakeholder input. Steps to achieving this outcome included:
- Establish a vision, goals and recommendations to improve transit in Buckeye
- Evaluate existing conditions and future conditions and travel patterns in Buckeye
- Review current practices from other cities in Arizona and across the U.S. to create a list of potential transit solutions
- Conduct robust public engagement to receive feedback and suggestions to:
- Better understand Buckeye’s current state of transportation
- Identify where transit can best serve communities
- Prioritize solutions that work best to meet Buckeye’s needs
