This project focuses on enhancing neighborhood safety and infrastructure upgrades along Acacia Way.

Project Overview

Chicanes will be installed on Acacia Way. Chicanes are raised median islands and a traffic-calming measure to discourage speeding and cut-throughs. These can also help enhance safety for residents and pedestrians along Acacia way. While the chicanes are being installed, there will be road closures in place; see the timeline below.

Once the chicanes are installed, the road will need to be patched. Patching is needed to properly install the chicanes and their concrete forms. This will also correct water from ponding near the new structures, protecting the road from long-term water damage. No road closures expected during this phase, flaggers will be out to direct traffic.

Project Timeline

The project is expected to last just over a week, starting March 7 and ending March 18, 2026. The bulk of the project is scheduled for completion during Spring Break.

The chicanes will be installed in segments; Acacia will be closed for two days within each phased area. Schedule as follows*:

• Phase 1: Thayer to Springfield
  • March 7 - 8
• Phase 2: Springfield to Shadow
  • March 9 -10
• Phase 3: Lost Creek to Canyon
  • March 10 - 11
• Phase 4: Canyon to Summit
  • March 11 - 12
• Phase 5: Legend to Trail
  • March 12 - 13
• Phase 6: Park Meadows to Carlton Manor
  • March 13 - 14
• Patch work will be completed March 14
  • Road will be open, flaggers will direct traffic
• Striping will be completed March 18

Resident Notification

We are committed to keeping you informed as work progresses. Residents can expect the following:

• Mailers: Project flyers will be mailed to all neighborhood residents

• Door Knockers: Residents living closest to the construction zone will receive a physical "door knocker" notice 48 - 72 hours before work begins

• Signage: Digital boards will be placed on major arterial roads. Static messaging will be inside the neighborhoods as you approach the project area

 Scope of Work:

• Widening Durango Street from approximately 500 feet east of Miller Road to Yuma Road and extending northward approximately 1,200 feet
• Comprehensive intersection upgrades at Yuma and Durango, including:
  • New curbs, gutters and sidewalks
  • Fully reconstructed half-street along property frontages
  • A landscaped center median to beautify the area and improve roadway functionality

After careful research and community input a T-intersection was chosen for this project, this design was picked over a roundabout because of cost efficiency, time to build and the ability to handle Buckeye’s growth.

Construction to start in early 2026.

Utility construction will start in summer of 2026, road construction will start in 2028 (the cities portion of the project).

This project will be coordinated with adjacent roadway improvements, including the McDowell Road from Jackrabbit to Tuthill Wash construction project and the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail Interchange (ADOT project), to enhance connectivity and accommodate increased traffic volume in the area.
