Approved Trash and Recycling Rates

Buckeye’s solid waste contract expired, and after a competitive bidding process, Council selected Republic Services. Trash rates, which rose $3.86 over the past decade, will increase to address inflation and rising costs, covering anticipated market changes through 2031.

Trash rates compared to other citiesThe main cost of trash service is the distance traveled by collection trucks. Even with the new rates, Buckeye’s trash and recycling fees remain competitive with those of nearby cities. The graph to the right shows the monthly rate for trash services for nearby cities.

Addressing Your Concerns

Why Republic Services

Republic Services was selected due to their:

  • Lower overall costs
  • Commitment to consistent customer care and efficient service
  • Local cart manufacturing partnership with Rehrig Pacific in Buckeye
  • Collaboration with the city on education and reporting
  • Innovative solutions for same-day service implementation

Residents have addressed concerns about recycling, especially given the low rates of recyclables actually being processed. Recycling challenges are part of a global issue, affected by market changes, stricter contamination standards and limited processing capacity.

However, we remain committed to making recycling effective in Buckeye. You can help by keeping contamination low, only recycle clean, dry items like cardboard, aluminum cans and certain plastics. Let’s work together to reduce waste, conserve resources and protect our environment.

Cost of Replacement Bins

Residents will only be charged for replacement bins if the damage is caused by resident negligence. Damage caused by Republic Services collection trucks or normal wear and tear will not result in replacement fees.

In-ground Trash Service

In some Sun City Festival neighborhoods, 30-gallon trash and recycle cans are built into the ground. These require manual labor for collection and are frequently overfull. While residents had the option to switch to 96-gallon above-ground carts, a 2020 survey showed 70% preferred to keep the in-ground service, despite the higher costs.
