Two Major Transportation Projects Underway in Buckeye:
The Verrado Way and Yuma Road intersection reconstruction remains on schedule and is expected to be cleared for traffic in October. The city understands how important it is to get this intersection reopened and has three crews working on the project to get it completed as soon as possible.
The I-10/Jackrabbit Trail project is a separate project led by ADOT. This interchange has been a major transportation priority for Buckeye for years, and now that construction is moving forward, we are excited to see these much-needed improvements get underway.
The good news for drivers is that the majority of the initial work on the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail project will take place on the flood control channel west of Jackrabbit Trail, so there should be limited impacts to traffic over the next couple of months. There are some tentative I-10 ramp closures now scheduled for September 12-13, but those closures will take place over the weekend to minimize impacts to school and work-week commutes.
We appreciate everyone's patience as these important transportation projects move forward and look forward to seeing the improvements completed.
The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments and the city of Buckeye, is advancing key improvements to Jackrabbit Trail and the I-10/Jackrabbit Trail interchange. This project will enhance traffic flow, expand capacity and support continued growth across the region.
Phase 1 Improvements

Interchange Signals: Reconstruct the interchange and install new traffic signals

Expanded Ramps: Widen interchange ramps to provide additional turn lanes

Bridge Reconstruction: Replace and rebuild the existing I-10 bridges over Jackrabbit Trail

Jackrabbit Trail: Expand Jackrabbit Trail to three lanes in each direction from McDowell Road to south of I-10
Phase 1 construction is anticipated to start in August of 2026 and take approximately two years to complete.
Phase 2 Improvements
- Corridor Extension: Expand Jackrabbit Trail to three lanes in each direction from I-10 to Van Buren Street.
Phase 2 is expected to start in 2028, once Phase 1 is complete.
This project is a crucial investment in Buckeye’s growth that will deliver a safer, smoother commute for decades. While work is underway, please drive safely: slow down in work zones, watch for construction crews and build a little extra time into your travel plans.
Thanks to Maricopa County voters approving Proposition 479 in 2024, this project is partially supported by the region’s dedicated half-cent transportation sales tax under the Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan.
